About Us

Contraflow was originated by the local churches in Helensburgh and the surrounding area, when a group of representatives got together in early 1997 to discuss what could be done for the youth of the town. After much consideration, contact was made with Scripture Union and a committee was formed under the title of HACYP - - 'Helensburgh Area Christian Youth Project'.

Finally in May 1998 a charitable trust was formed, with the name 'Contraflow' as the working title for the project.

The project has had 8 youth workers since its outset. Funding for the project has come from a number of avenues, namely individual giving (including covenants and gift aid), fund raising, direct support of the churches and refunded tax from the Inland Revenue.

The Contraflow Vision is:

To share God's love with young people in the area and to see them responding to the significance of Jesus through:

  • Exploring the Bible with the children and young people
  • Supporting youth leaders in the churches
  • Building relationships with the young people and their families

Contraflow is part of the Scripture Union Associate Worker Scheme and is a recognised Scottish Charity (No. SC027973)
