About Us

Our History

Contraflow was originated by the local churches in Helensburgh and the surrounding area, when a group of representatives got together in early 1997 to discuss what could be done for the youth of the town. After much consideration, contact was made with Scripture Union and a committee was formed under the title of  'Helensburgh Area Christian Youth Project'.

In May 1998 a charitable trust was formed, with the name 'Contraflow' as the working title for the project.

The project has had 8 youth workers since its outset. Funding for the project has come from a number of avenues, namely individual giving (including covenants and gift aid), fund raising, and direct support of our local churches.

Scripture Union Scotland

Scripture Union Scotland is part of the worldwide family of Scripture Union movements that began in the nineteenth century and now operate in over 130 countries across the world.

We are a Christian charity working in partnership with local churches and other sympathetic organisations. More than 2,000 volunteers are involved in helping to run our activities, together with around 100 staff and associate workers.

Everything we do is governed by two core values: dependence on God and deepening relationships.

We want to see children and young people:

Contraflow is part of the Scripture Union Associate Worker Scheme and is a registered Scottish Charity (No. SC027973).
